So I deactivated my facebook.
I read an article in the NYTimes about how facebook is really pervasive and selling your information. So are all the other big companies like Google. And there is no law that they have to tell you what information they have about you (a law that most European countries have). They sell this information to potential employers and to credit card companies who can reject you on the basis of your browsing history. I think that’s terrifying. Just because I search “diabetes” doesn’t mean that I should be denied health care.
Things like this scare me and I hate how connected to the internet we’ve become. I want to get rid of Google and all that and just drop off the grid. But here I am sitting on Tumblr and browsing my g-mail.
I think there should at least be some regulations on what information people can gather about you without your knowledge. It’s freaky.
